Khenpo Karchung
I am Karchung, fifty-three years old currently working as a lecturer and the administrator in Dorden Tashithang Buddhist University and this is the seventh year. I studied at Chari when it was as Shedra. Later in 1990 when it got upgraded into meditation center, I joined for the retreat as the first batch under 68th Jekhenpo Tenzin Dendrup. Prior to my work of today, I was for more than 20 years in Mahamudra practice (Co-emergence Yoga) sitting including in the forests and in several mountains of Bhutan. I realized that the Sanskrit words in the mantras and texts, though interpreted with many subtle and various meanings, were not clearly defined.

The monks didn’t really know exactly what they were chanting and reciting. So, at age forty-one, I wandering hermit went to India to study Sanskrit. Graduating six years later Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidya Peetha, Andhra Pradesh, in 2017, I returned to Bhutan. I have now published 10 books, including my Masterworks, Classical Tibetan to Sanskrit, and Sanskrit to Classical Tibetan dictionaries totaling over 1300 pages. Some of my other titles are: “The Golden Key”; “The Moonlight”; “Mantra Pronunciation,” and other eight books for mantra definitions including the Difference between Hindu and Budhhist Yoga.
