Dorden Tashithang Buddhist University
Located in the North of Thimphu, about half an hour drive from Thimphu city, in the middle of a green forest where we hear chirping birds, Dorden Tashithang Buddhist university was established in 2015. It was established to promote higher Buddhist studies in Bhutan by His Majesty the fourth king Jigme Singye Wangchuck and His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. It was funded by the Government of India as the mutual trust and friendship of Bhutan.

Dorden Tashithang Buddhist University has successfully conducted Auspicious Poshadha on the 8th day of the 7th month during an annual summer retreat for the Year of the Water Rabbit 2023. The Buddha set aside two days every month – the new and full moon – for the Poshadha (Poshadha in sanskrit, Sojong in Tibetan), a rite during which monastics are to purify and restore their precepts.
Launched
Coinciding with the Kuchoe of His Holiness Penchen Tenzin Chogyal, the 10th Je Khenpo, a book titled “Lhoyi Choejung Jamgoen Menthai Threngwa” was launched today. The book was written under the coordination and supervision of Lopen Tshewang Rinzin, the research head of Dorden Tashithang University.
Certificates awarded
Certificates were awarded and also rewarded as the appreciation to those who did hard work for the university. These are annually issued before ending the year after their good works are recorded from the start to the end by the university committee.
Certificates and prizes were awarded to the best winners of the year who took part in debate and in discussions. Certificates and prizes were also awarded to the best students who were very punctual in all the curriculums.Academics

The PhD was brought for the university to bring up more Buddhist research teams in Bhutan. This had been initiated to promote the quality education in coming years.1) Research on Madhyamika,

Sanskrit
Vajrayana and Mahayana Buddhism were translated to Himalayan languages mostly from Sanskrit, and Sanskrit language has been more important in depth as all the essence of mantras remain in Sanskrit language. With much interest, Khenpo Karchung took the first responsibilty in 2017 to teach Sanskrit as the university initiated Sanskrit subject.

Translation Division
Translation division has been the priority for the modern education. This was talked with the eminence Dorji Lopen Kinley and the high officials teaming to Punakha Dzong in 2022. The first translation day was inaugurated with the prayers by visiting group of monks from Dorden Tashithang Buddhist University at Dhueduel Lhakhang at Chari Goenpa, Thimphu.
