Khenchen Kuenzang Thinley
I was born in Norbugang village in Samar Gewog under Haa district. At the age of seven I joined in Central Monastic Body of Pung-Thim. Till sixteen I received the basic monastic education and practiced Vajrayana rites. After that, at the age of seventeen and eighteen, I learned Tibetan literature from the former Vajra Master Ngawang Tenzin, at Chari monastery for two consecutive years. From the age of eighteen till twenty four, I stayed in Phajoding monastery. Under the guidance of the late Master, Ven. Lekshed Jamtsho, I’d studied Buddhist philosophies and literature as well. In the following years, I went to Tago Buddhist Institute. Over there, I studied and contemplated in all the major philosophies thoroughly, from the venerable himself. After completing the studies, I served as a lecturer at Tago monastery for five years, however I still kept on studying despite being a teacher. At the age of twenty-nine, I did my M.A in Buddhism from Tago Monastery, and I was also awarded as the best scholar among the first batch of M.A students in the year 1993.

From the year 1994 till 1998, I served as a senior lecturer at Tago monastery and taught various Buddhist texts and teachings. After that, I returned to Chari and received all the secret teachings including Mahamudra views, six practices of Naropa, and five profound and vast orders of Drukpa lineage, from H.H the late 68th Jekhenpo of Bhutan. With extreme dedication and hard work, I’ve practiced, yogi’s secret profound tantric method for three years consecutively. Following the completion, I was appointed as a meditation instructor at Tago Yosel Gatshel meditation center when I was 37 years old, by H.H the late 68th Jekhenpo of Bhutan.
After resigning from being a meditation instructor, I served as a vice principal at Sangkhor Shedra in paro, then as a principal agent at Lekshed Jungney Shedra in Punakha, and a lecturer at Nalanda Shedra. At the age 41 I’d been appointed as principal at Sangchen Dorji Lhundrup Nunnery in Punakha, and served there for four years.
In 2015 at the age of 46, I was appointed as a president at Dorden Tashithang Buddhist University. Now it’s been more than half a decade teaching and spreading Buddhism to various Buddhist scholars here at the university, and serving the country and the people.
